The Sterman Biplane which most will say was the best and most popular primary flight trainer ever built. Over thirteen thousand of these rugged aircraft were built for the United States Air Force, the Navy and Army Air Force and others as well. Many are still in use as crop-duster, stunt and for private use, and for one hundred thousand dollars you can have a brand new one built for you. Marshall painted this colorful bird on the old Nantucket airfield circa 1970's but as the field was in 1930's, all grass. The fuel pump which was actually about sixty feet closer to the hangar and was a natural item to help set the scene and to complete the artistic composition. It also gives the artist a real cool place to put his name and the date.
